Gayla Lemke has been an active studio artist for over 25 years. While she works in several media, her primary focus since 1992 has been ceramic sculpture. She has explored figurative, abstract and installation work. In each of these areas, Gayla incorporates her skills at draftsmanship into her sculptures with carving and attention to surface treatment, often utilizing other materials and objects. Her work tells a story, be it literal or symbolic; personal or universal. Originally from Oklahoma, she received a B.F.A. from the University of Hawaii and an M.A. from the University of South Florida. Gayla teaches at the Art Students League of Denver, is a member of Edge Gallery in Denver and her work is shown in Stoneheart Gallery in Evergreen, Colorado.
