Jane Henderson Brunton received her BFA degree from the University of Georgia, majoring in Drawing and Painting. As a student she studied many types of media, styles and techniques and was also a participant in the Studies Abroad Program in Cortona, Italy. She came away from Italy with a huge appreciation for art history and tromp-l’oeil style of painting. After graduation, she continued her realistic style and found that she enjoyed painting things that usually go unnoticed or unappreciated, i.e. a banana peel lying in the street or cigarette butts wedged between cracks of pavement. In this particular style of painting, Jane does not paint from photographs but actually paints from the objects themselves. In doing so, color form and detail remain true.

After moving to Colorado in 1992, her painting took a different turn and she began painting landscapes. Her landscapes are not in her former realistic style, but more of an abstract, free-flowing style that just “sort of developed on its own.” She is an avid outdoors person and has climbed many of the highest peaks in Colorado and hiked many miles of trails in the Utah canyon country. There she finds an abundance of inspiration and is able to capture the light, color and beauty of Colorado and Utah landscapes in her paintings.
